bethejoy @cgncognito I hated to “like” this post but I do share in the unbreakable love for an animal that becomes FAMILY. I currently have 1 rescued 5 y/o Doberman and 2 kitties - ages 5 and 17. Yes - 17 years old - rescued at 4 weeks and bottle fed. She is my shadow and will always be sitting on me/by me. I pray she’ll be a Hemingway cat - but just like humans not a day is promised so I cherish every day with loved ones - including those with fur...

cgncognito @bethejoy thanks so much!!! And wow, you have lots of fur babies, I had a Himalayan, Qtip, that lived to 18yo ...lost him a few yrs back. Hershey was a 9days shy of 11yo ...at least w Q He was ill, it was terribly hard but I was giving him subcutaneous fluids etc, so I knew but w Hersh, he went from Fine (as far as I knew) to gone in 3hrs ... has been by far the hardest pet loss I have ever had

I’ve lost animals fast - and sick for a long time and I knew they were suffering. My husband and I’s first cat Puffy had a sinus tumor and he wasn’t ready to let him go - but as a nurse I know what hospice is and I wanted that each of my animals - not to die in pain or anxious...

bethejoy @cgncognito ...My former 😢 vet is a good friend (he sold the practice and is now retired) but he told me something that has always been a comfort - by FAR the greatest act of love a human can show to a beloved pet is to know when it is time. Treasure the time you had with your baby and love on your new addition. No pet can replace another - your heart just grows bigger. It says a lot about you 💜💕💜

As this post stayed, I lost my Precious Cat, Hershey to the same thing. I am so scared, but started her on heart meds today. Which didn’t go well, the pill is so tiny, she didn’t get the hole dose, BUT tomrw begins the Daily Tuna Juice treat (whispers, she won’t ever know) 😉😻

cjk5940 @cgncognito my ❤️goes out to you. I have had several kitties all my life and could never be without one. My Elwood now had a littermate Jake who was so sweet. He had a severe heart murmur that we treated with meds and stomach issues with special food. we gave him the best life possible and there with him at the end. You do your best for them and they love you for it. I am sure your sweet Hershey is smiling down on you❤️.

But Yea Hershey had a heart murmur that a cardiologist told me was not fatal etc, a few yrs later, he had a massive stroke that his his saddle branch (bk legs, it was horrific, he had gotten up, kissed me, had breakfast, was following me arnd when it hit n he literally screamed out, I had him to the ER in less then 20 mins but they couldn’t save him.

cjk5940 @cgncognito Jakie was diagnosed with the murmer by my vet,then we saw a cardiologist.He was stable on the meds and the murmer even got better. There are different degrees of severity so he still had it. He was on meds for 6 years. This can also decrease the chances of blood clots which cause stroke. It was his stomach issues that did him in .

One more question if u don’t mind … they put MAddie on a 1/4 of a tablet and I’m suppose to increase it to a half after 7 days… well I’m afraid to increase it, bc her heart rate is much slower then it was, so I’m afraid it will go too low, plus she is getting the side effect of decreased appetite… which u know kitties are already small lil things … anyhow, did u have a similiar experience w dosing?

cjk5940 @cgncognito what is the name of the med? They are dosed according to weight and medical condition. If you are seeing a drastic change in her appetite and normal behavior call your vet or cardio doc whoever is prescribing the med and let them know. Animals react differently to meds just like humans do do this is where you need to be the eyes for her since she can't tell you. The docs appreciate your interest and concern!💕😻

But honestly I don’t trust them …the vet has a new owner, it went from a private practice to a corporate owned, and they missed her murmur all this time even when i was telling them how rapid her heart rate is all the time etc. but yea she is on Atenolol… a 1/4 tablet. I am considering not raising the dose any further right now until she is seen agn.

cgncognito @cjk5940 oh I didn’t finish my thought on the vet… I’m so scared of murmurs bc of my last cat I actually ask evtime she goes to vet and they missed it, but her murmur was actually heard by another specialist … Maddie had was appeared to be a seizure, it presented w jsut like a 30 second head tremor, so I took her to Neuro, they were gna put her to sleep to do an MRI jsut to be safe and they ended up they couldn’t bc they heard the murmur, it’s like a ham poster wheel w her health

But I have just learned over the years to ask questions if Xi don't understand. So I assume the cardio doc is prescribing the med, let them know what you are seeing in Maddie if you are concerned about increasing med. Good luck and reach out to me if you have any questions 🙂💕😻

cjk5940 @cgncognito Sorry, I didn't see these couple of posts. Jake was on atenolol, enalapril and at one point a 1/4 baby aspirin. as he got better vet dropped the aspirin mainly kuz of stomach issues. At least she is on med, hold off increasing if you think she is having side effect of HR too slow til u see vet . It may take a while to get right dose and/or combo of meds for her. Hang in, don't panic ❤️

cgncognito @cjk5940 basically they want to do a reset, basically start over at half the dose, in hopes that she can tolerate the med if given in a lower dose. If that all makes sense, but I certainty hope we can get her on a dose that helps w o makin her sick in another way, bc currently she is only eating mb 1/4 of what she normally would n she is a bit lethargic, so idk, just gna give it a try.

Well, I took her off the heart meds, they said for 3-4 days, she didn’t start eating agn so at day 7 I put her bk on the lower dose Med n was going to call Vet Monday morning, but Monday She started eating more. Not her typical, but much more then she had been. So I am really hoping for a good result w the meds etc!

cgncognito @lilmisslibra85 thank you! Losing My Hershey was DEVASTATING, No warning. Woke up, kissed me, ate, followed me arnd & then he just collapsed. Bk legs paralyzed. Had him to ER n less then 20m, like knew it was some sort of stroke but on way to hosp, he started to pant, I knew then, he wasn’t coming home.. tho of course we did try life saving treatments but, yea 😭 .. so to hv my New Baby Dx w SAME thing, I’m just heartbroken.

cgncognito @lilmisslibra85 Tho I have started her on Meds but could tell by Drs responses, look on his face, tone of voice n the REPEATED telling my how Sry he was, just can not believe this. And Maddie’s Dx is on top of 2 family members w Cx. Feel like I am stuck in a Nightmare that just won’t stop worsening! But I appreciate Ur Kindness! And WELCOME TO POSH PFF!

cgncognito @palockwood thnk you, yes she is v special. Unfortunately she has been Dx w the EXACT SAME thing that My Hershey Died from. And since there is no warning signs until they literally drop from a massive stroke, my new baby girl is a ticking time bomb… I am just devastated 😭😭😭😭

cgncognito I’m to tired to read my past msgs but Update for those who follow her post / I G page. Updating PM 1st … Maddie May has had 3 cardiac appts n past yr, murmur (meds helped) by time meds helped murmur she started w heart disease, thus a chamber of her heart isn’t working, it’s thickening n hardening so it can’t pump the blood into the next atrium.

cgncognito It is starting to pool trying to build a clot (She would die of massive stroke n agonizing pain, my last kitty had SAME THING) but to add insult to injury, most cats can live yrs w medication but in 5months, her heart disease has progressed to 3x the size of when we first detected it, 5mos ago. Dr doesn’t even know if she will make it until her next appt, in 4 MONTHS, so possibly I only have a few more months w my Only 4 YO Baby Girl. I am TOTALLY HEARTBROKEN…

cgncognito I knew 5 mos ago that the Dr was extremely worried, but he told me today that he NEVER expected progression this fast. I’m going to be getting emergency medication to stop heart failure, in addition she is going to be on 4 other heart meds and a possibility of a 5th. GUYS, I AM HEARTBROKEN.. I CANT BELIEVE THE IRRESPONSIBILITY of BREEDERS. THIS IS HEREDITARY. AND THE BREEDER IN QUESTION, WINS AWARDS ALL THE TIME ON HER CATS, SHE HAD TO KNOW, THIS IS HEREDITARY

For me, it was losing Hershey 4 yrs ago in July… he died of a massive stroke, had no idea he was even sick…it’s literally called a cat lovers worst nightmare bc v often there are no warning signs.

cgncognito @gamer_princess And NOW my Baby Girl (Maddie May, that is who is in the pictures.) she is only 4, but Vet doesn’t know if she will even last until Jan at her next appt, I’m so 💔 and FURIOUS w the breeder. It is hereditary, so idk how it’s possible that she doesn’t know but she is some “important” person n the cat world… helping to even manage cat shows. So idk what to think.

cgncognito @squeakypie2017 Aww, thank you!! Maddie May is def Beautiful and she is so super sweet. Unfortunately, about a year ago, she was Dx w the same Heart Disease that I lost Hershey too. And Unfortunately, her case is a SEVERE case and we don’t have much longer. She is currently on 6 medications a day, but we are only buying a lil time. 😭😭😭

squeakypie2017 @cgncognito oh, I didn’t know that Maddie Mae was sick. I only read the first slide. It’s so hard to find reputable breeders these days. Everybody is out for a fast buck and they don’t realize the pain they cause to the buyer. I really am so sorry for all your pain. I pray that she will be OK and make a good recovery. God Bless.

But she is loved w every fiber of our being. 💔 And YES, Her Breeder is APPALLING… She is lying as well. She told me that Maddie hadn’t been registered yet but she would take care of it… I knew then she wasn’t Goin to register her, but I didn’t get why but I didn’t care.

cgncognito @squeakypie2017 But the animal control ppl IMMEDIATELY knew why. You are only allowed to breed twice a yr or they have to pay some sort of fees for licensing or Sumpn like that. So she is hiding how much she is really breeding them. That makes her a BEYOND AWFUL.

She is just so young and the breeder is SUCH AN EVIL HUMAN. I had my Vet tell me to turn her in to animal control, & they said they could do a welfare ck, but that I should contact the Cat Fancy ppl bc she is lying by not having them registered…
