FYI:
Copeland acquired Spode in 1830s, using Spode in many of their backstamps. Date marks (letter over 2 digits) added in the late 1800s - 1963. For this plate, my guess is S over 18 (look at the impressed mark upside down) for September 1918 - a guess since the mark is not well formed.
Spode's Tower pattern was introduced in 1814. It has been produced in a variety of colors (e.g., blue, pink and green). The original pattern was a printed transfer medium Ultramarine blue (pale blue)). Around 1860, produced in a darker, 'flowing' blue (Royal Saxon blue or flow blue). This is the style of this plate with the older backstamp of Copeland Spode's Tower Staffordshire.
Around 1894 the pattern was also printed on a Gadroon shape - white scalloped rim with raised beads (based on Georgian silver designs) in dark Royal blue or Zaffres blue. The Gadroon shape became very popular & was still in production in 2001.
Tower pattern was introduced 1814. Derived from a printed illustration in the book by Merigot 'Views of Rome and its Vicinity' published c1796-1798, depicting the Bridge of Salaro, near Rome . The bridge survives although it is now underneath the main route leading out of Rome to the airport.
