queennwildheart @jeanbean30 U are a sweetheart. Thanks for the tip ! I heard alot of great things about borax. I heard it is bird safe. Is it true because I got birds ?
Sep 24Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @queennwildheart As a detergent you use it should be fine. I wouldn't let the birds eat it. You can use any soap. My mom uses lavender soap as well as camomile. You can sent it with essential oil to.

jeanbean30 @queennwildheart It is the best detergent. I still use fabric softer sometimes.... although I saw a recipe using hair conditioner and vinegar I haven't tried...

iqclothessavvy
iqclothessavvy Wow! Thank you for an awesome tip! We spend well over $40 a month on laundry soap. Making soap this weekend!
Oct 01Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @iqclothessavvy It works well and saves so much. You can experiment with the type of soap you use. Zote soap works and I have found laundry soap bars at Latino markets as well. You can scent it with essential oil as well. I like the punk zote soap the best. Have fun! We store it in used veggie oil containers. The really big ones with handles.

donnadg COOKIES IDEA!!! But got a question where do you get laundry bar soap and ahh forgot the last ingredient, not the borax but the other, the mind is one of the first things to go when you hit 45,plus on top of that everything else goes south, haha sad but true you young ladies.

donnadg Next, washing soda, I've never heard or seen it or the laundry soap. Help........
Oct 07Reply
donnadg
donnadg Oh I HATE, This autocorrect it makes me sound like an idea, what I was trying to say was GREAT IDEA, how did my autocorrect get cookies out of that??
Oct 07Reply
donnadg
donnadg There it goes again, it makes me sound like an idiot, not idea, gosh, and I can't remember to always check out my writing before hitting send, but idiot not idea, is what I was trying to say this time, I think it's time to take the autocorrect off for a while.

donnadg
donnadg Do you mind if I share this?

jeanbean30 @donnadg you can share and I found everything at walmart,

jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @donnadg i dislikw typing on a phone. I usually get the kids to do it. I am 43 and thank goodness it spell checks because i miss a lot of letters
Oct 07Reply
donnadg
donnadg You got it all from walmart? let me ask, you said we could add some scented oil to it, any kind in particular, because was wondering if the oil in the scented oil would make any oily stains, I'd like to add something like Jasmin or lavender, and yes I'll share, such a great idea
Oct 07Reply
donnadg
donnadg Yeah now, I do I do like the spell check but this autocorrect, like just now I was trying to say wow great, and it put cookies in its place, where did cookies come from, I could understand if I used a word like cook. But great?? Umm who knows
Oct 07Reply
donnadg
donnadg I'd have to use to use milk containers, how much does this formula make? I only have one gallon milk container right now, may have to wait till I can get another one
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @donnadg I havent tried oil, but my mom said you can. Essential oil She just uses lavender soap. I will use the packs of snuggle scent boosters. I cut it open and dump it in after the sodas.
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @donnadg makes two gallons. You have to let it sit in the bucket until it cools. Stir every once and awhile. It will look weird, like egg drop soup.
Oct 07Reply
donnadg
donnadg So you can get that get that zote soap in lavender scent?
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 I use a old cooking oil container, the big one. My hubbie likes to fry things. And a old lemonade container. Handles are good. I am going to try out the hawian punch container next.
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 If you add scent find the white bar of zote soap. Pink bar is really nice.
Oct 07Reply
donnadg
donnadg Do you use both the zote soap and the Fels naphtha bar & stain remover together or choose one
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @donnadg one bar or the other. You cut off a third of it and shred it like cheese. The autocorrect took over on the tablet. The zone soap come in pink too.
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 I have also found other laundry bars at the Latino markets.
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @donnadg my mom uses camomile soap for the little grand babies
Oct 07Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @donnadg it is great detergent. My mom talked to a chemist and he said good formula. I looked up on line too and saw a detergent test on stains. It was comparable to tide, in some cases better.

mommystreasures
mommystreasures πŸŽ„ I have to say you are certainly clever and cost effective also. Wish we had ideas like this when we first got married and hubby was in college. We had very little money back then. Every 6 months a trip to McDonalds was a treat. Those were the days when you could get a burger, fries and a drink and money back from a dollar. We used to mix whole milk with instant dry milk to make a gallon. They call them the good old days. We had family values. Take care. Joyce πŸŽ„

nunumom @schoomkie Hey, I just read your comment about borax and fleas. We live in New Orleans, have 2 cats and a beagle, so I'm very familiar with fleas. So, do I sprinkle it around the house or in the house? How does it work? Thanks. Let me know. 🐰🐁Steph

kutterbest
kutterbest @donnadg I can promise you my iPhone has an imp in it who messes with me at the MOST INAPPROPRIATE TIMES! I HATE proofing cause I did it for several years when I was a teenager and it feels like wasting of my time that's already flying too fast. I DO watch the letters being typed in , but when I hit the button many many times it actually CHANGES the word!! Too many times the wrong word is actually more correct but not socially acceptable ha ha ha

kutterbest @donnadg hey lady-- was seeing your "smart" phone text issues and got tickled cause you should SEE some of the off the wall things mine will turn to/ after embarrassing myself a a time it too severely I try to look at the word after I type to see what's there for real- sometimes it comes up with definitely more apt description or word but most inappropriate to put in writing ha ha n I wonder "now how did you know" bahaha
Jan 01Reply
kutterbest
kutterbest @donnadg Donna for real tho what I wanted to share is this- in the 'essential oil' queen according to my daughter and granddaughter - my son and I both live by them -you really should read about them- look me up on Pinterest for a lot of essential oil info
Jan 01Reply
kutterbest
kutterbest @donnadg to answer your question they do NOT leave oil stain#1 there's diff kinds of oils(originally put in as oink) and you actually use specific type oil on skin and scalp to remove and reduce oil - as well as in clothes -#2 you put oils in detergent while still hot and it mixes in
Jan 01Reply
kutterbest
kutterbest @donnadg sorry they make you break up posts now I don't like that at all Pinterest name Robin Carr
Jan 01Reply
kutterbest
kutterbest @jeanbean30 very very awesome of you to post and share this info - I had actually forgotten one ingredient I used to make this!! Another tip- I use those scent granules that go in your washer tub - my fave scents - boil quart of water - add tbs baking soda or washing soda I prefer baking soda in this and 1/2oz white vinegar add 1/4 c scented granules to water just taken from boil and mix til dissolved - funnel it into a spray bottle
Jan 01Reply
kutterbest
kutterbest @jeanbean30 voila instant room fragrance- clothes fragrance /wrinkle remover etc - can also use as liquid fabric softener - can mix up as much as desired using those approx proportions it's not science so no need to be particular as long as you use soda and vinegar - saves lots n lots ofπŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’² I keep a spray bottle in every room and closet and jar plus spray in laundry - also great to spray on a clothe in with clothes on low/warm dryer remove wrinkles and odor from sitting in too long

cndub @jeanbean30 how safe is this for the environment do you know? Sorry just wanting to know for my own personal knowledge, I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything....Just an inquiry. I think about this with almost everything now. I feel so limited and still nothing seems right just wondering how this reacts with our environment before I try anything now.
Feb 22Reply
jeanbean30
jeanbean30 @cndub good question. I never looked into it. I know it is better than what you buy in the store because you can choose the soap you put onto it. I don't think the borax is too terrible. I'll look into it and get back to you.
