Vintage 1979 Fedoskino Russian Soviet Era Lacquer Box, Morning In A Pine Woods. This piece is a creation of artist from a village in Fed-skins called “Morning in the Woods,” which depicts a mother bear with her three baby cubs. The design is based on the original art painted on canvas in 1889 by Ivan Shishkin, which is exhibited in the Moscow’s Tretyakov Gallery.
The hand painted scene on the box is signed by the artist on the bottom right corner, Ragonova. The bottom left corner is marked with the village name where it was made, Fedoskino, and the date, 1979. The bottom is marked “Made in USSR.” Black lacquer covers the exterior, and red lacquer was used on the interior of the box. The box was made during the Soviet era which spanned from 1922 to 1991. Measures 6” x 4.25” x 2. There is some wear and minor scratches, mainly on bottom, consistent with age. Overall condition appears to be very nice. Please review all photos as they are part of the description.
