Six decorative porcelain plates made exclusively for Scully & Scully of New York, with each plate bearing that mark on the back. Referred to as "Nonsense Plates",
featured artwork by Edward Lear(1812-1888) the artist and author. Lear is well known for his nonsense art, stories and poems
After his death in 1888, all of these botanical drawings were published in a collection of their own, Nonsense Botany (1888). Each one of these 6 salad plates feature one of Lear's silly plants along with its comical scientific name using binomial nomenclature in full color.

These plates were made in Japan and are no longer made.
