Vintage 90's vibrant Sunflower Knit Sweater sunflower button cardigan

This sweater is fabulous! I’m a little bit confused because these buttons are amazing but they don’t actually fit within the button holes. I don’t know if these have been replaced, but would still look very good worn open.
