Wm. Schmidt Hand Knitted Norwegian Ski Sweater - Woman's Size Small - Gorgeous NOS (New Old Stock) 100% Norwegian wool pullover sweater - vintage from the 1950's - carefully saved, never worn from the famous Oslo Sweater Shop. This particular design is a version of what is known as the Eskimo Sweater. It was designed by Unn Soiland Dale, Norwegian knitwear designer and fashion pundit after she saw the Danish Royal family wearing Icelandic nuilarmuit - decorative Icelandic collars - when visiting Greenland. This was the sweater design that inspired countless other yoked sweaters that have since become Norsk Icons. Very warm it is made of worsted weight wool ( medium weight) and will really keep the wearer warm. The colors and design in the yoke are gorgeous featuring zigzag lines and big red flowers on a black ground. Sized to fit a Small - Medium woman - the sweater has a 36" bust and is 25" long. The sleeves and shoulders are styled in the traditional roomy manner that allows one to wear a layer such as a turtle neck underneath and still have plenty of mobility for skiing. This sweater dates from 1956. It is in brand new condition and has never been worn. Gorgeous! These sweaters take a skilled knitter over 60 hrs to knit & the materials to make them cost about $200.
