Antique Speidel 12k Gold Filled Necklace

Fredrick Speidel started his company in 1867 with $10 in the basement of his home. He is credited with developing the “gold-over-metal method, known as “bi-metal”. Jump ahead to 1896 he built the first state of the art machinery for gold chain production. In 1904 he founded the “Automatic Chain Company” which produced chain by the foot. He didn’t do very well with costume jewelry and stopped producing in the 50’s. This necklace is a beautiful piece from his short lived costume jewelry era. Central pendant measures 5/8 x 7/8” less the small rhinestone. Chain length 18”
