GALANOS Vintage Demi-Couture 2-Piece Red & Black Silk Jacket & Full Skirt SZ S/M

This stunning 1980s demi-couture ensemble from James Galanos comprises a red and black silk jacket and a coordinating dirndl style skirt. The jacket has a black silk collar and lapels, long sleeves with elegant zipper closures at the wrists, and big shoulder pads. It closes with both hidden snaps and two black buttons. The inside of the jacket is lined in tissue thin black silk chiffon, and all of the seams are cased in black silk. (In the words of Hubert de Givenchy about Galanos construction, "We don't make them like that in Paris.") The skirt fabric is woven in red black metalic threads, probably on a silk matrix.The lining is black silk taffeta, and it also has a black taffeta petticoat with a deep, stiffened hem. The skirt closes with a side zipper. Sizing charts indicate the top is about a size 8/10. The waist size of the skirt makes it a size 2/4. However, there are plenty of light gathers at the waistband to enlarge the waist, a pretty straightforward alteration that would be hidden by the jacket.
