John Galanos Vintage Couture Cocktail Dress

Own a piece of fashion history. Renowned American couture designer John Galanos manufactured this cocktail dress exclusively for the Amen Wardy boutique in Newport, Rhode Island. Galanos worked with the Wardy shop in the 1980s and this piece certainly reflects the decadence of the decade. Galanos was a prolific designer whose dresses graced some of the most famous names of the mid to late 20th century. His gowns are in the Met, and instantly recognizable for their bold and unexpected details. This dress features thick satin fabric, a high boat neck in the front which transitions to a surprise plunging back and overskirt detail. Long sleeves with cuff buttons. The hem is scalloped and the whole feeling is supremely elegant and vintage. Bust 34”, waist 27”, overall length 42”.
