aredhousebuy I was taught that a poor person could be a dignified person - and that one can go ANYWHERE & be successful by hard work, integrity and a clean set of well fitted clothing. I believe it to this day.

aredhousebuy My grandfather standing to the right behind his seated father, 1 of 9 children All taught to get up, dress your best, do your best, work hard and use your best manners every single day They believed that if you were dressed nicely It would help you to remember to behave nicely AND - They also believed that if you dress neatly it will help you to be treated well in any situation - that you stand a better chance of success at anything in life if you dress your best.

aredhousebuy My grandmother is the girl in the white dress Beside her, her only sister Josie who passed 8 in the influenza epidemic of 1918 in New York Her uncle is polishing her shoes at her fathers shoe shop If the photo were better you could see the calendar on the wall shows 1914 Poor immigrants Peasants They worked 14 -16 hours a day. ALWAYS dressed in well pressed, clean tailored clothing Every day They saw to it that even the children were neat & tidy at all times

aredhousebuy 4th photo my grandfather seated far left front row with his brothers. They lived in a tiny meager home but were meticulously groomed at all times They believed that being neatly dressed perpetuated civility and afforded opportunity They taught us that we teach people how to treat us by the way we present ourselves They believed that as immigrants they had to live up to higher standards...

aredhousebuy In the 5th & final photo my grandmother is seated in a rocking chair Her father the son of a fisherman behind the cash register at the shoe shop worked tirelessly making & repairing quality custom shoes. He sponsored & brought over from Italy & Sicily relatives who he trained to be master cobblers/ shoemakers... Married to lace makers & seamstresses. Common hard working people who were PROUD to say that their wares were MADE IN AMERICA!

mistielee @redhousebuys Lisa You are most welcome. I think in this day and age a legacy of morals, principles and values don’t mean much too many; however, like you... I believe that it is a true blessing! I’m just happy that you shared such a wonderful family story. And I must say... I am impressed with your humble spirit. That is not common!! I think a heart that looks like that is worth it’s weight in gold😃 Keep being the blessing I know you are!!❤️🙏🏻😘

aredhousebuy @mistielee ✅ I know what you mean I know people who don’t seem to value what they have been freely given I owe a debt I will never be able to repay When I think of how my family struggled it’s easy to be humble They are my heroes My adult son has a news clipping of 4 of my grandfathers brothers all deployed during WWII fighting in Italy 🇮🇹 Enlisted men, returning to the OLD country to defend it How can I ever live up to that kind of honor & self sacrifice? Not in this lifetime

onceuponakind @aredhousebuy 🥰 the lessons from history serve us well when we take the time to learn from them...my family were from the original immigrants, lol, via the mayflower on my mom's & from those who fled Russia after having gone there w queen Catherine on my dad's...much to learn from those who were before!.
