Philippe Starck, Lemon Squeezer Juicy Salif, 1987/90. For Alessi
Preowned some minor scratches
Not all fruit squeezers can actually squeeze oranges with style. Perhaps the most famous example is Juicy Salif, designed by Philippe Starck in 1990. It is considered an icon of industrial design, and it has been displayed in New York's Museum of Modern Art. It is manufactured by the Italian company Alessi, specialized in kitchen accessories. It is 14 cm wide, 29 cm high, and it is made of cast and polished aluminum. Alberto Alessi, the company's founder, recalls how he learned about the French designer's project: “I received a napkin from Starck, where among some incomprehensible markings (tomato sauce, probably) there were a few sketches. Squid sketches. They started on the left, and as they worked their way to the right they revealed the unmistakable form that would turn out to be the delicious Salif. While eating a squid dish and squeezing a lemon over it, Starck came up with a great idea and drew his famous lemon squeezer on the napkin.
