VTG MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN (1945-1952) Hand Painted Paper Fan on Wood Frame. This beautiful vintage Japanese paper fan on a wood frame measures 8" on length x 1" in width x 1/4" in depth. When fanned out, it measures 14-1/2". Measurements are approximate. The fan is definitely a culturally significant item. Its provenance includes an ownership history which adds to its value. The fan was handmade and hand-painted in Japan during the 1945-1952 period when the country was under occupation. It was purchased in Japan by my aunt during that time. She was sent to Japan to teach the American children of the occupying forces. Upon her return to the United States, she gave it to my mother as a gift. I inherited it upon my mother's death. It is a beautiful representation of Japanese culture and craftsmanship. Great vintage condition. In the last two pictures, you will see where some of the original glue shows through the paper and a very small mark at the top of the fan.
