The set was actually made in West Germany for the European market in 1967. Although the game is entitled by "Charles Eames" I feel its important to say that most of these cards were created by Ray Eames, Charles, wife, as she had an enormous influence over the early work of Charles Eames, and was a self-confessed hoarder of small and interesting objects which she collected from around the world on her travels, and if she wasn't travelling she would get friends and associates to bring items back, from stamps to fabric, silks, and folk art, these were then photographed along with more locally sourced items, such as vegetables and antiques.
The cards are a collection of these everyday objects from around the world, which can then be slotted together to build towers and constructed pieces.
This set of giant cards was not produced in such volume as the smaller cards, sturdy thick cardboard cards, the condition of these cards is exceptional, they have no tears or bends to the card which is often the case with these cards. The box does has signs of age and a little ware, but considering the game is over 50 years old, this to be expected.
A wonderful find, sure to inspire, the cards are also pretty tough and are therefore better to build with than the playing sized cards which can get easily damaged.
In great condition. box a little worn.
