Vintage OMC Otagiri Kutani Peacock Floral Design Teapot and 4 cups Bamboo Handle

The cream gold with an adornment of floral and peacock accents on each piece, including the lid, boasts the handcrafted and handpainted details of Kutani craftsmanship. The bamboo handle is sturdy and perfectly provides variety in the textural design of the porcelain and colorful painted image. Its natural elements magnify the glorious flowers and peacocks that are lined with gold accent leaving a lustrous and colorful experience that bring a taste of elegance to a traditional practice to Tea (or Sake) time with friends. This set still has the OMC - Otagiri Mercantile Company - sticker. The Japanese marking confirms this set was made in Kutani, the oldest known town of craftsman in Japan for handpainted and handmade tea sets. Otagiri imported from Japan to San Francisco, CA for more than 46 years. All products, including this one, was handcrafted and hand painted. All imports were distributed to high end department stores in the US. This set was probably purchased and made in the 1970s as the trademark Otagiri was made in registered in that decade. Otagiri indepednatly operated in the US from 1954-1994 before they were bougth by Enesco.
