Ralph Lauren Spring Runway '03 Victorian Wallpaper Floral Silk Jacquard Jacket

Lauren loves the womanly silhouette of the fin-de-siecle with its nipped waist and curving hips. For Spring 2003 he chose to highlight that silhouette with regal fabrics in wallpapers florals, damasks, jacquards, and silk moirés, made into curvy jackets, bustiers, and vests, shown with creamy linen or silk trousers or light, pretty skirts, all gilded or printed with wallpaper florals. While Lauren makes no secret of his love for the past, he’s also resolutely modern: He paired these exquisite pieces with distressed blue denim, for a beautiful, now juxtaposition. Italian-made, Victorian-inspired. Wide spread collar, notched lapel, single breast silhouette, covered button closure, gathered shoulder, long sleeves with godet bell cuffs, inset waist with a soft flounce peplum, rear point hem, princess seams galore, for the perfect fit. Full lined. Sweet pink posies, soft floral vines, powder blue bows, between peachy moire ribbony stripes, on a creamy soft vanilla ground silk. Excellent special occasion jacket, or a great juxtaposition over your favorite faded jean maxi skirt. A piece of art, like something you would see back in Mozart's 18th century, or on Marie Antoinette herself. It is nostalgic, perfectly feminine, and oh-so-lovely.
