Rare Vintage 1960s Peck & Peck Tweed Wool Coat

Become a steward of history with this exquisite coat from legendary retailer Peck & Peck. Founded in 1888, the high-end NYC brand sold fashionable clothes from its location on coveted Fifth Avenue, one of the premiere upscale shopping streets in the world. Its designs were tastefully refined; elegant and timeless in their simplicity. This coat is a dream of 1960s glamour. A sophisticated check pattern in gorgeous complementary shades of cocoa brown and soft cream is carefully aligned and symmetrical throughout the construction in a mark of the era's exceptional quality. In fact, the entire coat is a testament to a lost art of clothes-making, one that existed until the 1970s throughout the country that can now only be found at luxury brands, and sometimes not even there. Button tabs in front help define the waist--the right one is decorative; the other overlaps to help close the coat. The front perfectly fastens under the collar with two sets of hidden snaps. A graceful collar with gently rounded points completes the chic, retro design. Invisible side seam pockets offer a cozy place to tuck your hands. As it is such an old garment, there are no size or material tags, other than a small tag noting it is union made. I believe the main fabric is wool. It's soft and plush and heavy, ideal for fall and winter. It's also fully lined with a beautiful cream fabric in a ribbed satin weave, possibly made of silk. It is in extraordinary condition!
