Vintage ASIAN LACQUERED COASTER SET in cinnabar red and gold floral motif.

We believe the set is Japanese. We purchased them while on assignment in Asia in the early 1970s while visiting Japan. There are six coasters in in the set with a gold flower motif. The 3-inch coasters sit in a matching lidded container. The bottom of each coaster is black. There are some small chips on the lid of the container. (See photos.)
