In 1919, Clark sold the mill to the E&Z Van Raalte Company for more than $1.8 million. Fitzgerald displayed the check used to pay the transaction.
Van Raalte was famous for making women’s veils at a plant in Paterson, N.J., but continued producing silk gloves in Saratoga Springs along with mesh stockings, and later rayon underwear, for high fashion stores such as Bloomingdales and Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan.
