Artist History: Jack Black was a highly regarded sculpture artist and member of the Navajo tribe. He was born in Galveston, Texas but moved to Arizona opening a studio in Sedona in 1984. It was Black’s practice to sketch his ideas after observing and being inspired by the colors and peoples in the desert. He would then sculpt them in clay. Molds were made from that original and the figures cast in stoneware. Each piece was cleaned and detailed by hand making none identical. His figures are understated, timeless, beautiful, and wonderful to gaze upon. Jack Black passed in 2002.
