Delicate bracelet of 3 pence pieces struck between about 1917 and 1919. Jewellery was often crafted by inmates of military hospitals in this era to pass the time, as mementos for a loved one or a gift. The thruppence piece was popular because it was a quite small, thin coin and could be worked with simple tools. This bracelet has seven 3 pence pieces alternating obverse and reverse carefully pierced and connected with double jump rings. This includes a single coin, a 3 pence piece from 1745 depicting George II that is pierced and probably meant to be used as a pendant or possibly dangled from the chain of this bracelet. I'm not sure I would do that, though, as the piercing is very close to the edge.
This bracelet has been kept stored for years and is actually have just the usual patina - the 18th century coin actually looks new and uncirculated.
This is mine from a friend who dealt in rare pieces.
7" overall. Coins are small and light. The 18th century coin is larger.
