Vintage early Miriam Haskell necklace with distinctive turquoise blue glass bead cluster at front, wired on a chase gilt metal chain, with a decorative open-back box clasp at the back with turquoise beads hand-wired to a pierced metal plate, again, in a cluster fashion. The necklace lays similarly to a choker length, at about 15 inches long. The overall style, construction, and the open back clasp suggest this is likely from the 1930s, and less likely, but possibly 1940s. The beads I believe are likely by Maison Gripoix, though I’m not certain - Haskell sourced some of her beads from Gripoix, and these are remarkably similar to a particular early Gripoix bead (for an example of what I mean, the British vintage jewelry shop Simply Decorous has a beautiful vintage Chanel turquoise glass cluster bead necklace on their site at the time I’m writing this that uses the bead I’m referring to). Unsigned. See photos for details.
Since identifying and verifying Haskell is tricky - particularly unsigned pieces - before listing this piece I consulted an appraiser (Dr. Lori Verderame) to confirm. Cathy Gordon has also documented Haskell’s use of this style of open-back clasp, this style of chain, and this color of bead. And, of course, Poshmark authenticates items sold for $500 or more.
