When the production of sugar into refined white grains was developed, it outmoded the brown clumps of rock hard sugar people shared when serving a hot beverage. Now the fine granules could be pressed into individual cubes and these could be mass produced for those who could afford "fine dining".
Heisey and other fine glass manufacturers seized the moment to develop a new tableware piece! These were produced around the turn of the century and onward. No more sharing the same sugar chunk.
This tilted stand allowed the stacking of multiple cubes for using at the table and passing to the next person.
This will be a serving piece most people will not recognize or know it's purpose without sugar cubes on it! Quite a conversation piece!
It measures 6" long and 2" wide not counting the handle. The inner rim bottom edge has a tad of roughness (see photos). Otherwise, this is in remarkable condition for it's age and was probably stored most of it's life.
