Born as Alix Barton, Madame Grès (1903–1993) was a leading French couturier and costume designer, founder of haute couture fashion house Grès in 1942. The House of Grès—called “the most intellectual place in Europe to buy clothes” by The New York Times—became one of the world’s biggest fashion brands, rivaling Chanel and Dior. Madame Grès was known as the “Sphinx of fashion” and “queen of drapery”, and was particularly renowned for her floor-length Greek goddess gowns.

@pamelapampammy Thanks so much for flagging that typo (now corrected)! I had typed “4” where it should have been “3”. It’s essentially 34” square.
