Abe Lincoln Gets His Chance by Francis Cavanah (1963 1st Thus Scholastic Paperback)
This fictionalized story of Abe Lincoln's youth and coming of age helps to bring this piece of history to life. It is a good way to introduce children (second through fourth grade, perhaps?) to Abraham Lincoln and the way he grew up. It is a good lesson in making the most of the resources you have (since he had so very little for a good portion of his life). Reading this makes the reader want to learn more about him.
A note from Cavanah says, "In writing the story of Abraham Lincoln, the author depended primarily on Lincoln's own statements and on the statements of his family and friends who had firsthand knowledge of his everyday life. In instances when dialog had to be imagined, the conversation might logically have taken place in light of known circumstances. Such descriptive details were necessarily added based on authentic accounts of pioneer times."
Paperback cover is whole and shows normal wear, reading crease in front cover, but not in spine. A few storage creases in covers. Interior is tight, clean and, except for name within front cover and title page, unmarked. The name on title page was marked out with a marker, but the marker bled through several pages without affecting legibility of signature or text.
