This union case is embellished with geometric scroll patterns. The frame case has an old portrait of a lady. She seems to have been born in the early 1900s. The case is the union style, which is a combination of various materials heated and molded to create a sturdy finish. This type of case had production in the early 1850s, and it was known as the "Florence Compound."
This one was made by Littlefield Parsons and Co. (I do have another smaller case for sale as well with a lovely portrait of a man)
This has smooth hinges that open and close without issue. The clasp works and keeps the case securely closed. The engravings are detailed, and the case is dark brown. It has strawberries and flowers in the embossed details. The left inside of the case has a velvet pillow cushion with a geometric design, while the right side has an oval, gold gilt looking frame, glass and the photo.
