This antique German hat pin, marked “Jes Geschützt” (a variation of "Gesetzlich Geschützt," meaning legally protected), likely dates from the early 1900s to 1930s. It features a charming silver-tone squirrel perched on an oak branch, delicately holding an acorn — a beautifully crafted piece from the pre-WWII era.
The pin includes a built-in holder for feathers or florals, a common feature in traditional hunting and alpine-style headwear. The original feather bundle is still attached and intact, though it shows signs of age. The feathers have been hot glued to the crown of the modern hat for display.
These legally protected designs were often produced in pre-WWII Germany and remain collectible today, especially when they feature nature or folk-inspired motifs.
The pin is currently mounted on a modern brown woven polyester fedora by Marc Anthony (one size fits most). The hat is clean and fully wearable — ideal for showcasing the piece or as a ready-made display.
