Originally this was a coin purse or key ring to hold your keys to protect them from scraping the inside of your bag. The chain is still attached, but it is missing the key ring. Super easy to add a key ring if you wanted to use this as a key holder again, and would be great with larger car key fobs because it could easily hold just about any size fob.
