Vintage French Couture Turquoise Glass Cabochon Rhinestone Gilt Knot Earrings

Vintage French couture earrings with a turquoise glass cabochon in a knot of interlocking chased or repoussé gilt metal rings and accented by prong-set colorless rhinestones. Clip on closure. Absolutely gorgeous piece. I’ve seen this style attributed many times to being an early design by Robert Goossens for Chanel, but I’m not certain about that - Goossens certainly used the same chased metal ring components, and the clip-on closure is a style that appears in Goossens’ early work as well, but the prong settings and the soldering look to my eye like it’s more likely to be the work of Roger Scemama - another fabulous French parurier, who created costume jewelry for couture houses like Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Chanel as well.
